However, this is not new. The streets of Jaipur have been lit since the reign of Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh II, with the establishment of Jaipur Gas works in 1878!
The lighting of the main streets was further enhanced during the reign of Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II. In 1923, an electric powerhouse was constructed to replace gas with electricity, which became operational in 1927. (Reference – ‘Jaipur: Gem of India’ by D.K. Taknet)
As part of the Smart city mission launched in 2015, DRONAH, the resource organisation to provide all proposals for the walled city of Jaipur prepared the Detailed Project Report outlining a series of projects.
